Hi, I’m Shiva. Welcome to Gathering Wonders.
If you’ve ever stood in an airport at 5 a.m. with a half-packed bag, three browser tabs open, and no real idea if you’re about to make a huge mistake or the best decision of your year…
I get it. That was me, more times than I’d like to admit. And it’s exactly why this blog exists.
How It All Started
I didn’t grow up dreaming of becoming a “travel blogger.” Honestly, that wasn’t even a real job title when I first started planning trips with nothing but a notebook, too many spreadsheets, and a stubborn refusal to pay for things I didn’t need to.
My early trips were a mess. I overpacked. I underbudgeted. I once missed a train because I trusted a map app that clearly hated me. I learned almost everything the hard way, which, in hindsight, might be the only way anyone really learns.
But somewhere between the missed trains and the moments that made it all worth it (watching a sunrise I almost slept through, eating food from a tiny roadside stall that ended up being the best meal of the whole trip, getting hopelessly lost and finding something better than what I was originally looking for), something shifted.
I started writing things down. Not for anyone else at first, just so I wouldn’t repeat my own mistakes. Then friends started asking me for advice before their trips. Then friends of friends. And eventually, I realized I had a lot more to say than a group chat could hold.
That’s how Gathering Wonders was born, out of notebooks, group chat advice, and a genuine desire to save other people the stress I put myself through.
What This Blog Is Really About
At its core, this is a travel blog. You’ll find practical guides, destination breakdowns, and the kind of tips I wish someone had handed me before my first big trip, the stuff that isn’t always obvious until you’re standing in the middle of it.
Things like how to actually budget for a destination (not just the “official” cost everyone quotes), how to avoid the tourist traps that drain your time and money, and how to travel in a way that feels less like a checklist and more like an experience.
Over time, I’m also planning to bring in food and lifestyle content, because honestly, the three are impossible to separate for me. Travel isn’t just about the places you see
. It’s about what you eat while you’re there, how you live day to day, and the small lifestyle habits that make everyday life (whether you’re home or halfway across the world) feel a little richer. So expect this space to grow beyond just travel, at a pace that feels natural rather than forced.
Why You Can Trust What I Write
I’m not here to sell you a fantasy version of travel. I’m not going to tell you a destination is “hidden and untouched” when it’s actually packed with tour buses, or pretend a budget trip is glamorous when really you’re eating instant noodles in a hostel kitchen (which, by the way, can still be a great night)
. Everything I write comes from actually doing it: booking the flights, making the mistakes, figuring out the workaround, and then coming back here to tell you what actually worked.
I test the advice I give. If I recommend a route, a budget, or a way to avoid a hassle, it’s because I’ve lived through the version where I didn’t know that yet, and I don’t want you to have to.
That’s really the whole philosophy behind this blog: I’d rather give you one honest, tested tip than ten generic ones pulled from a “top 10 things to do” list I never actually experienced myself.
My Mission
My mission with Gathering Wonders is simple: to make travel easy for everyone.
Not just for people with unlimited time and money, and not just for seasoned travelers who already know the ropes. I want this to be a space where a first-time traveler feels just as supported as someone planning their fifteenth trip.
Travel can feel intimidating: the planning, the logistics, the “what if I get it wrong” anxiety, and my goal is to strip away as much of that stress as I can, one guide at a time.
What You’ll Find Here
